Marsha Miller
When Rochester resident Marsha Miller, 79, lost her balance and fell in a parking lot several months ago, she suffered a deep cut to her right lower shin from a storm drain. A neighbor, who is a nurse, helped her care for the wound for the first few weeks, but soon it became clear that she’d need more advanced care.
Marsha decided to seek additional medical attention in her community, but after three weeks she not only wasn’t seeing improvement, the wound was getting worse.
While at a meeting for Rochester’s Economic Development Commission, of which she’s a member, Marsha spoke to fellow commission member Tim Jones, CEO of Frisbie Memorial Hospital, about her experience and frustrations, wishing there was an alternative.
Until Jones mentioned the Frisbie Memorial Hospital Wound Care Center, Marsha didn’t know that Frisbie had a Wound Care program. She quickly made an appointment, where she met with Dr. Natasha Saiyed, general surgeon and wound care provider at Frisbie.
From the moment she walked into Frisbie’s Wound Care Center, it was a vastly different -- and very positive and welcoming -- environment and experience.
Q: What brought you to Frisbie Memorial Hospital’s Wound Care Center?
A: After four weeks of treatment at an area hospital, the wound became infected. I shared my frustration with CEO Tim Jones and he recommended Frisbie’s Wound Care Center.
Q: How would you rate the experience – from the care itself, to the overall environment and the approachability and demeanor of the staff?
A: After my prior experience (at another area hospital), I worried that it would be more of the same. Thankfully this was not the case, from the receptionist to the nursing team to Dr. Saiyed, all were professional, reassuring, competent and confident that the wound would heal. They were right!
Q: If you were to recommend Frisbie to a friend or family member, what would you tell them?
A: Relax. You’re in good hands. Let them do their job and you do what they tell you to do.
Q: How did this experience differ from the care you received shortly after your fall?
A: The appointment was on time; the nurses, a team of seasoned professionals, delivered care with confidence and compassion; Dr. Saiyed, an experienced general surgeon, practiced with confidence and certainty. It was the first time in more than four weeks that I could relax, all because I was now in her care.
Anything else you’d like to add?
Thank you Tim (Jones), and thank you Wound Care team, I feel great!
